Corporate Fixed Deposit (Corporate FD) is a deposit held for a specified period at a fixed interest rate. A limited number of corporations and non-banking financial institutions issue corporate FDs. They are comparable to bank fixed deposits but pay a higher rate of interest. Corporate FD is the most convenient method for businesses to raise capital compared to all other alternatives. In addition, market fluctuations have no effect on the interest rates of a corporation's FD. Consequently, corporate FDs offer fixed and consistent returns over time.
The investment duration of corporate FDs ranges from 12 to 60 months, depending on the issuer.
Despite being rated by reputable rating agencies, India's Corporate FDs are not risk-free. A company’s financials can deteriorate due to market conditions or accounting fraud. This can result in interest payment delays or even defaults.
Interest income from corporate FD is taxable under the head income from other sources at the applicable tax bracket. If interest income exceeds Rs 5,000 in a fiscal year, TDS @10% will be deducted from the interest income.
Corporate FDs offer numerous options for interest pay-out like monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annually. Besides, you may also choose between cumulative and non-cumulative interest pay-out.
